Jessi’s Journey

From Creative Risks to Photography

Success in Boston Massachusetts

When it comes to building a career in the creative world, taking risks is often the key to unlocking opportunities. Jessi’s story is a perfect example of how stepping outside of comfort zones, embracing change, and trusting your instincts can lead to extraordinary success. From her early days as an illustrator to the creation of her thriving photography business in Concord, Massachusetts, Jessi's journey has been anything but traditional—and that’s exactly how she likes it.

The Risk That Sparked It All

Jessi’s creative career started with a risk during her undergraduate studies at Endicott College. Initially pursuing a degree in Creative Arts Therapy, she decided to pivot after hearing a lecture from illustrator Craig Frazier. Inspired, Jessi transferred schools and changed her major to Illustration. This bold move led her to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), a decision that greatly enriched her creative eye and laid the foundation for her current business.

However, Jessi's path to becoming a professional photographer wasn’t without its obstacles. After facing health challenges, she made another big decision: leaving Georgia and returning home to Concord, Massachusetts. This change allowed her the flexibility she needed to manage her health while pursuing freelance work.

Building a Freelance Career from Scratch

In Concord, Jessi embraced freelancing full-time, using the power of networking, cold calling, and client referrals to grow her client base. Her experience as a graphic designer and marketer played a major role in her success. Jessi never shied away from a challenge, taking on projects that ranged from website design to apparel and marketing materials. She worked closely with women owned businesses, building lasting relationships that allowed her to further expand her freelance portfolio.

One of the most pivotal moments in her journey came in the fall of 2019 when she joined a Massachusetts-based cannabis company as a graphic designer and product photographer. Although this position was short-lived due to the onset of COVID-19, it was a catalyst for Jessi’s decision to pursue a photography business full-time.

Combining her background in design with her passion for photography, Jessi opened her first studio in Concord, Massachusetts—a risk that has since paid off with strong client connections and a growing business.

Photography Business Focused on Branding and Commercial Photography

Jessi’s photography business has evolved over the years, starting with lifestyle and commercial portraiture and expanding into branding and commercial photography. Today, she specializes in branding and commercial photography for travel, health, and wellness brands. Although she still works with local businesses and families, her niche now focuses on creating portraits and stock photography that help clients showcase their unique identities across social media, print, and websites.

Having a background in graphic design, marketing, and photography allows Jessi to bring a well-rounded approach to every project. She carefully considers each client’s brand identity and personality, tailoring her creative process to ensure that the final images truly reflect who they are. This attention to detail, combined with her natural yet advanced Photoshop retouching style, has become one of the most valued aspects of her work.

The Power of Authenticity in Photography

One of the core philosophies behind Jessi’s work is authenticity. For her, the most rewarding part of being a creative is seeing her clients’ reactions when they experience the final product. Whether it's viewing the images from a photoshoot or seeing them on a website or social media, the satisfaction of knowing that her work is resonating with her clients brings Jessi immense joy. It’s not just about capturing a moment; it’s about telling a story that aligns with the client’s vision.

Jessi’s ability to capture her subjects in a way that feels real and effortless is what sets her apart. From family portraits in the sand of the Cape to branding shoots for wellness businesses in Boston, Jessi’s photos showcase not only the people but also the personality and heart of her clients. By blending her passion for photography with her expertise in design and marketing, she’s able to create stunning visuals that elevate each brand she works with.

A Growing Legacy in Massachusetts

As Jessi’s business continues to flourish, she remains committed to providing a service that feels deeply personal and connected to her clients. For Jessi, the best part of photography is the lasting impact it can have on her clients’ lives and businesses. Whether it’s helping a local Massachusetts brand stand out with unique imagery or creating memories for families, her focus on quality, authenticity, and connection shines through every project.

Her story is a reminder that taking risks and embracing the unexpected can lead to incredible growth and success—especially when you follow your passion and stay true to your vision. From her early days as a freelance graphic designer in Concord to now running a successful photography studio, Jessi’s journey is one of growth, learning, and most importantly, making authentic connections through her work.
