Branding with Personality: How the Concord Consortium Used Playful Photography to Tell Their Story
Working with the Concord Consortium, a nonprofit based right here in Concord, Massachusetts, was an inspiring and creatively fulfilling experience. Known for their innovative work in science and education technology, the team reached out to me with a unique request: they wanted custom headshots—both professional and playful—for their website and internal use.
We planned an in-studio session at my Concord space with a clean, white backdrop to give them flexibility in how the images could be used. Each employee posed for a traditional headshot as well as a more fun, personality-filled portrait—some brought props, others brought big energy. The images will be used in clip-art style illustrations to enhance their brand’s storytelling in a way that’s engaging and unexpected. You can find a wonderful example here on CEO Chad Dorsey's bio!
Later, I worked with their CEO to capture another series of environmental headshots around Concord Center and their headquarters. This outdoor portion brought in natural light, architectural texture, and a grounded sense of place—something that’s important to many local brands.
I love collaborating with nonprofits, especially when they’re open to creative ideas and visual storytelling. These kinds of projects are a great reminder that professional photography doesn’t have to be stiff. It can be joyful, smart, and tailored to your brand’s mission and energy.
